Development plans for PLD 3.0 (Th)
Overview of changes planned to PLD Th.
Software updates
| Software | Progress | Comments |
|---|---|---|
| texlive 2012 | ?? | work in progress |
| ruby 2.0 (2.1?) | 0% | ruby 2.0 is faster than 1.9.3, and minimally different to 1.9 (compared 1.9 to 1.8) |
| 256 colors terminals | 0% | make 256 colors the default in all capable terminals |
| Java cleanup | 0% | java-sun is full of security holes and unmaintained, java-oracle looks to be non-redistributable, they're both scheduled for removal from ftp. Icedtea will become our java environment. |
| Samba 4 | 50% | Replace samba 3.x packages with samba4 |
System wide changes
- full systemd support (provide systemd units, but still support SysV scripts - at least until vserver will be able to run systemd)
- drop *-initrd packages, building them is becoming a RPITA, and the net gain is not worth the pain
Completed targets
| BerkeleyDB 5.3 | 100% | In Th on 22nd September 2012 along with rpm5, but rpm uses BDB 5.2 |
| rpm 5.4.x | 100% | In Th on 22nd September 2012 |
| perl 5.18.x | 100% | Available with all dependant packages in Th since 30th June 2013 |
| apache 2.4.x | 100% | In Th on 7th June 2013 |
| kernel | 100% | grsecurity support has been dropped, linux-3.4.x is now “longterm” |
